How We Serve God and the Community

In addition to providing an open house of worship for for ALL God's people, we work with various organizations in our community such as Lutheran Social Services to provide essential needs and assistance for our community.  We support active involvement in community organizations such as those listed alphabetically below.  We also inform and educate the general public about God and our church through particpation in community events.

Alliance for Full Acceptance

Alliance for Full Acceptance is a social justice organization which strives to achieve equality and acceptance for gay, lesbian, and transgender people.  The organization consists of members who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and heterosexual, uniting to eliminate prejudice based on sexual orientation.  AFFA meets monthly for a meeting or a special event.  AFFA's ADORASO (A Dialogue on Religious and Sexual Orientation) meets on the last Wednesday at 12:30 pm at the Charleston County Library at 68 Calhoun St in downtown Charleston.  For more information please call 843-883-0343 or visit the AFFA website.

C.A.T.S.

C.A.T.S. (Charleston Area Transgender Support) is a nonprofit group open to genetic males and females who identify themselves as crossdressers, transsexuals or transgenderists, whether gay or straight, bisexual or asexual, their spouses, significant others, and friends. C.A.T.S. is intended to be an open support group for all members of the transgendered community in the coastal area of South Carolina.  C.A.T.S. does not discriminate based on gender identity, race, religion or sexual preference. The organization provides a safe and confidential atmosphere for the transgendered, their loved ones and friends.  This group meets on the second Saturday each month.  For more information please e-mail ChasAreaTSupport@aol.com or visit the C.A.T.S. website.

Lowcountry AIDS Services

Lowcountry AIDS Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for persons living with HIV or AIDS.  LAS Provides HIV prevention resources and programs for schools, churches, community organizations, and the workplace in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties.  Confidential HIV testing is also available.  Many of its activities are performed or supported by a corps of volunteers.  Lowcountry AIDS Services is entering exciting new territory, focusing more resources than ever on education and prevention.  With help from volunteers and anyone interested, LAS can take away the power that HIV/AIDS has over people.  For more information please call 843-747-2273 or visit the LAS website.

South Carolina Equality Coalition

South Carolina Equality Coalition is an umbrella organization which works in collaboration with individuals and member organizations to provide educational programs for LGBT people about identities, internalized homophobia, and issues affecting LGBT families, educational programs for groups that interact with the LGBT community, and lobbying in the South Carolina legislature.

WeAreFamily

WeAreFamily is a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing counseling and support services for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered youth from 16 to 23 years of age who are struggling with their sexuality and the prejudices that are all too often associated with it.  This group also helps to prevent them from becoming statistics of suicide, drugs, and hatred.  A group called SafeSpace meets weekly as a discussion group.  Topics of discussion vary weekly based on input from the youth attending.  In the past, topics have included discussing the coming out process, dealing with discrimination, developing a circle of friends, the do's and don'ts of dating, peer pressure, and other topics designed to help LGBTQ youth become contributing individuals in society.
